Baking

The Varland Advantage:

At Varland Plating, we understand that baking is an essential post-plating process to meet industry standards and improve component performance. With six batch atmospheric ovens, we can handle large volumes of parts requiring baking, with customizable bake times ranging from 3 to 24 hours and temperatures from 250 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows us to cater to a wide variety of applications and client specifications.

  • Specialized Ovens for Hardening: In addition to atmospheric ovens, Varland also operates two inert atmosphere ovens specifically designed for the hardening of Electroless Nickel deposits, offering increased durability and wear resistance for high-performance components.

  • Precise Control & Monitoring: We utilize advanced electronic hardware and custom software developed by our in-house IT team to monitor both the time parts spend in the oven and their exact temperature profile. This ensures that every batch receives the precise bake needed to achieve optimal results.

Why Bake Parts?

  • Preventing Hydrogen Embrittlement: Many industry specifications require baking operations to reduce hydrogen embrittlement, which occurs when hydrogen atoms are absorbed into metal during electroplating processes. This embrittlement can weaken parts and make them more susceptible to fractures, particularly in high-strength steel components (usually with a hardness greater than HRC 32). Baking helps drive out hydrogen, restoring part integrity and preventing failures under stress.

  • Enhanced Performance & Durability: For parts requiring Electroless Nickel plating, baking in an inert atmosphere oven hardens the deposit, improving its wear resistance and extending the component’s lifespan.

Tailored Baking Solutions

At Varland Plating, we offer tailored baking processes that meet the specific requirements of your parts. Whether it’s baking to reduce hydrogen embrittlement in high-strength steel or hardening Electroless Nickel deposits for increased durability, our precision-controlled ovens ensure your components are baked to perfection.

Expertise in High-Volume Baking: Our six batch ovens allow us to process large quantities of parts quickly and efficiently while maintaining precise control over temperature and time. Each batch is handled with care, ensuring every component meets the most stringent industry standards.
